Williams BMW the fastes in the Australian Grand Prix Practice

Williams's Nico Rosberg clocked the fastest practice lap for the third session in a row in Melbourne before the real business of qualifying begins.

Williams BMW skipper Nico Roseberg finished first on the practice lap in the third season of the F1 in Melbourne, Australia, Ferrari's Felipe Massa was fourth and the first 11 cars bettered Lewis Hamilton's pole time in 2008. The last year F1 world champion showed improvement but finished only at the number twelve position. n the final practice session before qualifying starts at 0600 GMT, the three teams who Ferrari, Red Bull and Renault are protesting about continually set the pace - mirroring the two sessions on Friday. At various points throughout the hour-long session, Brawn GP drivers Jenson Button and Rubens Barrichello, along with Toyota drivers Timo Glock and Jarno Trulli, led.

But Rosberg came through towards the end of his 21 laps to steal the quickest time from Italian Trulli in one minute 25.808 seconds. That was nearly a second faster than the 1:26.714 Hamilton recorded to register pole position last year in Melbourne. The fact that 11 drivers went quicker in the session than in 2008 qualifying, along with the times from Friday, was surprising given that the new raft of regulations was supposed to slow the cars down.
