UEFA WOMEN’S EURO 2009

UEFA WOMEN’S EURO 2009 will be staged in the Finnish cities of Helsinki, Lahti, Tampere and Turku. Actually, there will be two venues in the capital, with the Olympic Stadium staging Finland's group fixtures, including the opening game against Denmark on 23 August, and the final on 10 September 2009.
The Scandinavian rivals will also meet Ukraine and Netherlands in Group A, with all four teams playing on the opening day of the finals. Group B gets under way the following day, with Iceland tackling France and Germany squaring off against Norway in a repeat of the 2005 final. Group C then takes centre stage on 25 August as Sweden face Russia and England take on Italy. The hosts will play all of their group games at the Olympic Stadium while the capital's other venue, the Helsinki Football Stadium, opens its doors for the first time on August 26 for Ukraine versus Denmark. Group games continue until August 31, when the top two in each pool and the two best third-placed nations progress to the quarter-finals on September 3 and 4. The semi-finals follow on September 6 and 7, before the competition concludes three days later at the Olympic Stadium.
